Example hooksFixed Angles
Hooks that come with the plugin to change the level while a camera has the shot, and put it back after: hide a wall, bring the lights up, slow time, call your own events.
A hook runs an action when something happens: a fixed camera taking the shot, a lock starting, a rig coming in. These come with the plugin for the things a camera's moment most often wants done to the level. Each one works in any hook list: a fixed camera's On Enter and On Exit, a lock-on preset's hooks, a rig's and a point of interest's. They're also a starting point for your own: a Blueprint made from Blendable Camera Action that overrides Execute does anything a Blueprint can.
Putting it back#
The ones that change the level remember how it was. Put It Back Afterwards, on by default, puts it back:
- as a fixed camera lets go of the shot, for one in its On Enter,
- as a lock ends, for one in As The Lock Starts,
- as a rig lets go, for a rig's hook with On Deactivate ticked.
So one entry hides a wall for as long as a camera has the shot. Put in On Exit instead, an action does its change as the camera lets go, and nothing puts it back.
The hooks#
| Hook | What it does |
|---|---|
| Show Or Hide Things | hides actors, or shows hidden ones: the wall between a fixed camera and its room, a roof seen from above. Their Collision Too takes their collision with them |
| Change The Lights | turns lights on or off, or dims or brightens them to a share of their own brightness, and can change their colour, over a moment. The lights must be Movable or Stationary |
| Slow Time | slows the game to a Speed (%), easing in and back, for as long as it Lasts or until it's put back. Above 100 speeds it up |
| Call An Event On Actors | calls a custom event or function with no inputs on actors, such as OpenDoor, and another when it's put back, such as CloseDoor |
| Play A Level Sequence | plays a Level Sequence Actor placed in the level, from the start; putting it back plays it backwards, stops it, or lets it finish |
| Hold The Player Still | stops the player moving, and looking too if it says, for a moment or until it's put back |
| Set A Material Parameter | sets a number or a colour in a Material Parameter Collection over a moment, so every material reading it changes together |
| Show An Overlay | shows a Blendable FX effect over the picture, at its own amount or one you set, for a moment or until it's put back: old film for a flashback, a tape's wobble on a security camera. Needs Blendable FX |
| Play An Impact | plays a Blendable FX effect once, as an impact: an impact frame as a fixed camera takes a fight, a flash as a lock lands. Give it an actor in On and an effect centred Where It's Played strikes there, following it as it moves, rather than on the player: the enemy that took the hit. There's nothing to put back. Needs Blendable FX |
| Show A Message | puts a line of text on screen for a few seconds, for trying things out. It shows only in development builds |
Actors are named in the hook, or by a tag: everything with And Everything Tagged on it, so a hook reaches actors added later without being edited.
In the demo#
The Fixed Angles level's Camera Showcase, out through the security office's side door, has one of each of the most used: the gallery's lights come up as its camera takes the shot, the cutaway room's near wall goes so the camera outside can see in, the slow room slows time, the cinema holds old film, and the vault dims its lights.
